From The Ground Down

Based in Draper. Working the whole south valley.

Most of our work happens within about twenty minutes of the shop, and that's deliberate. Short drives mean we can get back out to a site the same week if something needs another look, instead of scheduling you around a job two counties away.

Draper

Excavation and sewer services in Draper, Utah

Draper is home. The equipment sits here, the crews live here, and most mornings we're on a job inside city limits before the coffee is gone.

That matters more than it sounds. When a line backs up on a Thursday afternoon, being fifteen minutes out instead of an hour is the difference between a same-day look and a next-week appointment.

Draper is also one of the more varied places in the valley to dig. The east bench climbs fast and turns rocky, SunCrest sits high enough to change how you think about access and frost depth, and the older west-side neighborhoods run lines that were put in a long time ago.

What we run into in Draper

The bench is rock

The benches below the Wasatch are full of cobble and boulder washed out of the canyons. Trenching up there takes longer and takes the right machine. We price it that way from the start rather than discovering it on day two.

SunCrest is its own job

Elevation, grade and driveway access all change what equipment can reach a site up there. Anyone quoting SunCrest the same as a flat valley lot has not been up there recently.

Older lines, west side

Plenty of Draper's established neighborhoods run laterals that predate the current owner. If yours backs up more than once, the problem is usually the line and not the clog.

Sandy

Excavation and sewer services in Sandy, Utah

Sandy is fifteen minutes north of the shop and it's some of the most familiar ground we work.

It's also a city where most of the housing stock has some age on it, and that changes what people call us for. In a new subdivision we're installing. In Sandy we're usually replacing, repairing, or working out why something that ran fine for thirty years quit last month.

Established lots also mean tighter access. Mature trees, finished landscaping, fences that went in after the house did. Getting a machine to the back of a property without wrecking everything in between is part of the job here, not an afterthought.

Roots find old lines

Mature trees are the best thing about Sandy's older streets and the worst thing about the laterals running underneath them. Older pipe joints give roots a way in, and once they're in they keep coming back.

Access is the constraint

Finished yards, close-set homes and decades of landscaping mean we plan the approach before we plan the dig. Sometimes that means smaller equipment and a longer day. We would rather do that than replace your fence.

Repair or replace

Not every failing line needs to come out. We'll tell you when a spot repair will hold and when you're just paying to do the same job twice.

Riverton

Excavation and sewer services in Riverton, Utah

Riverton spent most of its history as farm ground, and the dirt still acts like it.

The valley floor out here runs heavy on clay, which is excellent at holding water and terrible at letting it go. If you're putting in a septic system that isn't a footnote, it's the whole question. A percolation test tells you what the ground will actually accept before anyone commits to a design, and out here the answer often surprises people.

Add proximity to the Jordan River corridor and you get groundwater that can sit higher than you would like. We plan trenching and bedding around that instead of hoping for a dry week.

Clay does not perc

Heavy clay is the single biggest factor in whether a septic design works in Riverton. We test first. A perc test costs a fraction of a system that has to be redone.

Groundwater sits high

Closer to the Jordan River the water table can come up faster than expected. That affects trench depth, bedding, shoring, and how long a hole can safely stay open.

Big lots, long runs

Former farm parcels often put the house a long way from the road. Longer utility runs and longer laterals change both the cost and the fall you have to hold across the run.

Bluffdale

Excavation and septic services in Bluffdale, Utah

Bluffdale still has room, which is why so much of our septic work happens here.

Plenty of properties sit outside city sewer service, on acreage, with horses or outbuildings or both. Those are the jobs where design actually matters. Tank sizing, drain field placement, setbacks from wells and property lines, and what happens to the system when somebody adds a bathroom in five years.

The city is also growing quickly, so we're often working next to something being built or on a parcel that was pasture two seasons ago. Knowing what is already underground before you dig is not optional here.

Septic is still normal here

Much of Bluffdale is not on city sewer, and that works fine when the system is designed for the property instead of copied off the last one. Tank size, field location and setbacks get settled before anything is ordered.

Acreage changes the math

Horse property, outbuildings, long driveways and private wells all affect where a drain field can legally and practically go. We work that out on paper before we work it out with a machine.

Locate first, then dig

Rapid development means new lines going in everywhere. Blue Stakes gets called on every job with no exceptions, and we plan around whatever comes back marked.

Herriman

Excavation and site work services in Herriman, Utah

Herriman has grown about as fast as any city in Utah, and most of what we do here reflects that.

New construction means starting from a bare lot. Clearing, cutting the pad, digging footings, running water, power and sewer to the house, then backfilling and bringing the site to finished grade. It's sequenced work where every step waits on the one before it, and where a week of slip early becomes a month by framing.

The west side of the city climbs into the Oquirrh foothills, and the ground gets harder as you go. Rock is a schedule item out there, not a surprise.

Sequence beats speed

On new construction the excavator sets the pace for every trade behind it. We schedule around your framer and your concrete date rather than the other way around.

The foothills are rock

As you climb toward the Oquirrhs the digging gets harder. We would rather bid it as rock and be right than bid it as dirt and hand you a change order in week two.

One crew through concrete

Because we pour as well as dig, there's no dead time between prep and footings waiting on somebody else's calendar. On a build schedule that's usually worth more than the line-item price.

Lehi

Excavation and sewer services in Lehi, Utah

Lehi is straight over the Point of the Mountain from us. Close enough that we work there constantly, different enough that it's worth calling out.

The obvious difference is the ground. The Point is sand and gravel, which is exactly why the gravel pits are there. It digs differently than the clay on the valley floor and it holds a trench wall differently too.

The less obvious difference is paperwork. Lehi sits in Utah County, and septic permitting runs through a different health department than everything north of the Point. Same work, different forms, different inspection calendar.

What we run into in Lehi

Sand and gravel, not clay

The Point of the Mountain is a gravel deposit, which is why the pits are there. It drains well and it caves differently. Trench safety and bedding both get planned for the material we're actually in.

Utah County, different permits

Septic permitting south of the Point runs through Utah County rather than Salt Lake County. Different forms and a different inspection schedule. Budget the timeline accordingly.

Growth crowds the ground

Lehi has added a lot of infrastructure in a short time. Locates matter, and so does knowing what went in recently that may not show on an older drawing.

Don't see your city?

This list is where we work most, not the edge of the map. We regularly take jobs in South Jordan, West Jordan, Salt Lake City, Alpine, Highland and Saratoga Springs. If you're roughly half an hour from Draper, call and ask. Worst case, we point you toward somebody closer.

Give us the address or the cross streets and tell us what you're dealing with.

Knowing the city tells us a lot before we ever get there. It's usually enough for us to say on the phone whether this is a same-week job or a permit-first job.
